The Romanian Haemophilia Association (ARH) successfully organised the inaugural Hemo-Filiada – Together for Education, Sport, and Health! from 11 to 13 July 2025. In partnership with the Comprehensive Centre for Haemophilia Care Cristian Șerbanin Buziaș, this groundbreaking event brought together people with haemophilia, von Willebrand disease (VWD), and other coagulation disorders from across Romania and Moldova.
The three-day event demonstrated that an active, sporty lifestyle is entirely achievable for people with bleeding disorders when supported by appropriate treatment and medical education. “Hemo-Filiada was not just a simple event, but a symbol of inclusion, resilience, and solidarity. It was about the courage to face limits, about learning and living actively, regardless of the diagnosis,” explained Daniel Andrei, ARH President.
Professor Margit Șerban, one of Romania’s most respected figures in haemophilia care, delivered an emotionally powerful presentation reflecting on the transformative impact of medical camps for patients. The medical team’s commitment to safety was exemplary, with Dr Adina Trăilă maintaining continuous presence throughout the event, whilst Dr Ema Nădașan provided insights into adapted physical activity and healthy routines for people with bleeding disorders.
The sporting programme showcased remarkable achievements across multiple disciplines. The football tournament, organised through a fair draw system, generated tremendous enthusiasm and team spirit. Table tennis became the weekend’s most intense competition, whilst speed swimming championships concluded the event with displays of determination and joy that highlighted both physical and mental resilience.
“On the football pitch, at the table tennis table, or in the pool, each competition was more than just a game—it was living proof that sport is both possible and essential for everyone, even when facing medical challenges,” the organisers emphasised. All activities were conducted under the highest safety standards with careful medical supervision throughout.
Hemo-Filiada transcended sport and education to create a vibrant community built on mutual support and solidarity. The inclusion of participants from Moldova highlighted the event’s regional impact and the universal nature of the bleeding disorders community. Each participant demonstrated that through trust, support, and collaborative effort, apparent limitations become surmountable.
“Every smile, every confident step, every success—all these are clear signs that our path is moving in the right direction. Congratulations to all participants and winners—for courage, perseverance, and fair play!” conveyed the organising team.
This inaugural event marks the beginning of a more active and optimistic future for people living with haemophilia in Romania and beyond by combining hope, education, movement, and trust.
