EHC proudly supported Asociatia Romana de Hemofilie (ARH), the Romanian Haemophilia Association, at their landmark Haemophilia School 2025: “ReStart”, held from 1 to 6 September 2025 in Eforie Nord, Romania.
On 4 September, EHC President Miguel Crato joined virtually to engage with over 150 participants in discussions about European treatment harmonisation, advocacy strategies, and patient empowerment. The interactive session addressed key challenges facing the bleeding disorders community and highlighted the vital role of patient involvement in improving care standards.
Also Bernadetta Pieczynska from the EHC Women and Bleeding Disorders (WBD) Committee made a special presentation launching the Romanian translation of Is haemophilia (fe)male?, the EHC Booklet on Women and Girls with Haemophilia and Female Carriers. This initiative demonstrates the EHC’s commitment to making essential resources accessible across all member countries, bringing visibility and support to women affected by bleeding disorders and helping to fight stigma.
The five-day event’s “ReStart” theme celebrates Romania’s implementation of continuous adult prophylaxis – a national first that represents a major advancement in patient care. The comprehensive programme included sessions on genetic testing and personalised treatment options, pain management, physical rehabilitation, and workshops on communicating about the disease within families and public spaces. The programme also expanded its focus on women who bleed, advancing inclusion and equity in bleeding disorders treatment. The event brought together patients of all ages, families, and specialists for comprehensive sessions covering medical education, advocacy training, psycho-social support, and community-building activities, including specialised programmes for couples, elderly patients, and physical therapy initiatives.
As Daniel Andrei, ARH President, noted:
This edition of our Haemophilia School demonstrated that every step forward — whether medical, emotional, or social — is easier when taken together, giving patients and their families the power to move forward.
